Pam Creedon

Pamela J. Creedon is a Professor Emeritus of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Iowa. She was the first woman appointed as the director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Iowa, serving from 2002 to 2007. Prior to her tenure at Iowa, Creedon directed the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Kent State University and began her academic career at The Ohio State University School of Journalism. Before entering academia, she spent 15 years in public relations and editing.

Creedon started her academic career in 1984 at The Ohio State University, where she taught journalism, advertising, and public relations courses for a decade. Creedon entered administration in 1994 as the Director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Kent State University where she was instrumental in the establishment of the College of Communication and Information.

In 2002, Creedon joined the University of Iowa faculty as Director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.  At Iowa, her initial focus was the $19 million fundraising campaign to build the Philip D. Adler Journalism and Mass Communication Building. It opened in January 2005 and houses The Daily Iowan, Daily Iowan TV, the Iowa High School Journalism Association, Quill and Scroll, and the Department of Cinema and Comparative Literature. After serving as Director, Prof. Creedon spent 2007-2008 as Associate Director for Internships and External Relations and returned to the faculty until retirement as Professor Emerita in 2012.

Upon retirement from Iowa, Creedon was offered a position as Public Relations Director at the Higher Colleges of Technology in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. In 2013, she joined the College of Communication and Media Sciences faculty at Zayed University with campuses in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. While at ZU, Creedon was promoted to Associate Dean and served as Acting Dean until her retirement in 2018.  Under her leadership, Iowa and Kent State were reaccredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, and Zayed University earned its first ACEJMC accreditation.
